THERE WILL BE BOOKS // KYLE NICKOSHIE
What was the first book you read as a teenager that made a mark on you?
April Raintree by Beatrice Culleton Mosionier. It’s about a young Native girl and her sister when they are taken from their parents and put into foster homes. It’s a sad read and it’s based on the life of the author.
Do you read often these days?
I try, but I was never an avid reader and I get side-tracked very easily.
Is there a local bookstore or library you frequent?
If I walk by a bookstore, I’ll go in and take a look around but I wouldn’t say I frequent any.
What book that you’ve read recently can you recommend to others?
Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer.
Without giving away too much, what’s that like and about?
It’s about the Native ways of living. It’s a nice read and it kind of shows you how to be grateful for what you have. Kind of like everything is a gift.
