There Will Be Books
with Evan Hay
What was the first book you read as a teenager that made a mark on you?
I really liked Calvin and Hobbes growing up.
Do you read often these days?
I’m a history student so I have to read a ton for school, but not as much as I’d like for pleasure.
Is there a local bookstore or library you frequent?
Ryerson Library for school, but I just recently found out about this place called D & E Lake Ltd., which is a rare book store in Toronto. It’s dangerous though because you can end up spending a lot of money since they have so much good stuff. The old guy that works there is really cool, too.
What book that you’ve read recently can you recommend to others?
The last book I read for fun was The Catcher in the Rye by J. D. Salinger.
Without giving away too much, what’s it about?
My friend Seb gave me the book. It’s basically just about this kid Holden who goes through ups and downs while finding his identity, growing up, dealing with mental anguish, etc. You have to be in the right mood, though, or else it might just seem like a boring book about nothing in particular.
